“…Bu farklı bir şey biliyor musunuz, sizin geçmişinizi yok etmeye çalışıyorlar. Tahir Elçi “siz bu minarenin ayaklarından ne istediniz?” dedi, orada gitti. Bir şey yapamamak. En kötüsü bu. Bu kadar şeyi yaşayıp geliyorsunuz ve bu ülkede sizin çileniz bitmiyor. Ben insanım diyorsanız ve insani değerleriniz varsa, ona sahip çıkarak yaşıyorsanız siz bunun faturasını çok ağır ödüyorsunuz. Beni çok etkilemişti Tahir Elçi’nin cenazesi. Ama insanların hala sağduyuları var. Size en çok güç veren haklılığınız, savunduğunuz insani değerler. Bunlardan mı vazgeçeceğiz? Evet, bunun için bir sürü eziyet çekiyorsunuz. Ama bu bizi insan yapıyor. Değerlerimiz insanı insan yapıyor. Ve sonuna kadar da tabii ki bu haksızlığın, zulmün, yapılan işkencenin karşısında duracağız.”

“You know, this is something different: they are trying to erase your past. Tahir Elçi said, ‘What did you have against the feet of this minaret?’ and that was where he died. Being unable to do anything- that is the worst part. You go through so much in life, and yet in this country your suffering never seems to end. If you say, ‘I am a human being,’ and if you live by human values and stand up for them, you end up paying a very heavy price for it.
Tahir Elçi’s funeral affected me deeply. But people still have their common sense and conscience. What gives you the greatest strength is knowing that you are right and that you are defending humane values. Are we supposed to give up those values? Yes, you endure a great deal of suffering because of them. But those are the very things that make us human. Our values are what make us human. And of course, until the very end, we will continue to stand against this injustice, this oppression, and the torture that is being inflicted.”
